Description
Authentic Timber Clapsticks
These hand carved clapsticks are the work of Greyson Williams, a Lardil artist from Mornington Island in the Gulf of Carpentaria. Traditionally used to maintain rhythm in song and dance, clapsticks are an important part of Aboriginal ceremonial and cultural life.
Greyson has crafted these from local timber, giving each set a strong, natural sound. The wood has been shaped and smoothed by hand, showcasing the artist’s connection to both land and culture.
Each set is unique and reflects Greyson’s knowledge and skill as a carver from the Wellesley Islands.

My traditional name is Yirribi, meaning Kingfish. I come from Mornington Island in the Gulf of Carpentaria and enjoy carving timber artefacts. These clapsticks, called Dingarr, represent the teeth of the Rainbow Serpent and connect us to the rhythm and stories of Country.
