Shipping & Returns

Everything you need to know about the safe delivery of your authentic Indigenous art and gifts, as well as our return and exchange policies.

Order Processing & Enquiries

  • Orders and emails are handled Monday–Friday, 9 am–5 pm AEST, excluding public holidays.
  • Most orders are processed within 1–3 business days and dispatched from Ancient Journeys in Cairns, regional Queensland.
  • If you’d like extra photos, more information, or details on availability, please email or phone us. Many items are unique and handmade, but we may have additional pieces or alternative designs available in-store. Phone: +61 7 4033 0228

Pricing & Payments

  • All prices are in Australian dollars (AUD). GST is included for Australian orders and automatically removed for international orders.
  • International postage does not include GST.
  • Payments appear as “Gulf Projects Pty Ltd” on your statement.
  • We accept major credit cards and PayPal.
  • A tax invoice is emailed to you at the time of placing your order.

Shipping Information

We take great pride in carefully packaging your authentic Indigenous artworks and products to ensure they reach you in pristine condition, no matter where you are in the world. Orders are typically processed and dispatched from our gallery in Cairns within 1-3 business days.

Domestic Shipping (Australia)

  • Standard Shipping: Typically 5–10 business days via Australia Post or trusted couriers. Most destinations will be toward the longer end of this timeframe, as all orders are posted from Ancient Journeys in Cairns, regional Queensland.
  • Express Shipping: 2–5 business days for faster delivery.
  • Large Artworks & Artefacts: Oversized or delicate items, including stretched canvases or large carvings, are shipped via specialist art couriers. Custom freight quotes will be provided.

International Shipping

  • Delivery typically takes 10–21 business days, depending on destination.
  • Customers are responsible for any local customs duties, taxes, or import fees.
  • USA Orders: A 10% surcharge may apply due to current import tariffs — this will be shown at checkout.

Oversized / High-Value Items

  • Certain artworks and artefacts, including large stretched canvases, carvings, or sculptures, cannot be processed through the website shopping cart due to their size and shipping requirements.
  • Customers must contact the gallery via phone or email to arrange shipping. This allows us to assess the best freight option and provide a custom quote based on the delivery location.
  • We can also discuss insurance options, which is recommended for high-value items such as Aurukun dogs.

Returns & Exchanges

We want you to feel a deep connection with your chosen piece. If you change your mind, we gladly accept returns for an exchange or store credit within 14 days of delivery, subject to the following conditions:

  • The item must be returned in its original, unused, and undamaged condition.
  • All original tags, authenticity certificates, and packaging must be included.

Return shipping costs for a change of mind are the responsibility of the customer. We strongly recommend using a trackable shipping service and purchasing shipping insurance for valuable items.

Exceptions & Non-Returnable Items

For hygiene, safety, and ethical reasons, certain items cannot be returned unless they are faulty. These include:

  • Pierced earrings and body jewellery
  • Opened Bush Apothecary products (soaps, balms, creams)
  • Indigenous Bush Foods
  • Custom-commissioned artworks

Damaged or Faulty Items

We rigorously quality-check and securely package all items before they leave our gallery. However, if your item arrives damaged in transit or is deemed faulty, please contact us within 48 hours of receiving your delivery.

Please provide clear photographs of the damage, including the exterior packaging, so we can promptly assess the issue and process an insurance claim with our couriers. We will swiftly arrange a replacement, repair, or full refund in accordance with Australian Consumer Law.

How to Initiate a Return

To begin the return process, please contact our gallery team with your order number and reason for return. Do not send items back without prior authorisation.
