Description

Utilizing traditional pandanus weaving techniques passed down for generations, Nathalie has meticulously transformed hazardous ghost nets into this one-of-a-kind, eco-conscious dilly bag – a vibrant masterpiece celebrating Anindilyakwa heritage through intricate knotwork and earthy hues while embodying a commitment to sustainability.

Ghost nets, or fishing nets abandoned or lost at sea, pose a massive threat to marine life and birds. Fish and turtles, as well as larger animals such as dolphins and sharks, are often discovered entangled in the net, many of which have been killed.

Anindilyakwa Arts is a thriving hub of creativity spanning the Groote Archipelago in the Gulf of Carpentaria, Northern Territory, Australia. The warnamamalya led creative program proudly supports local employment and encourages traditional and contemporary creative practices. Anindilyakwa Artists explore creative avenues through “old and new ways”, drawing on deep knowledge of traditional practice, and experimenting with concepts in contemporary art disciplines.
