Bradley Wilson, born 1974, is a Lardil man from Gunbar country in the Gulf of Carpentaria, Queensland. He paints at Mornington Island Art. He says, “My painting is to show how I express my culture, my identity. I put it in a way for everyone to understand my place, my community. Painting’s opened my eyes to my own family, to my grandfathers, it’s giving me a chance to explore. That’s what it means to me, bringing me back to my culture. I express myself through my painting, that’s who I am.” Wilson’s work is held in private collections and the collection of the Queensland Art Gallery.

Artwork details: Thanbe chest markings, 2007, synthetic polymer paint on linen, 1520 x 1210 mm.

Artwork story: This painting shows the chest markings of the totem Thanbe (shovel nosed shark).

Blak Flair is a KickArts creative merchandise project that has been generously supported by the Christensen Fund. The project aims to develop a collection of merchandise that portrays the work of Indigenous artists from Far North Queensland, to promote their work and cultural importance to the broader community.
